Salmon
NDSFB are confident that their efforts to conserve and manage salmon have been successful. The official government statistics for catch returns show clearly that the recorded catches of salmon for the River Nith district over the last 10 year period are on an increasing trend. These figures buck the trend of the Scottish recorded catch for salmon.
Sea Trout
Recorded catches of sea trout in the River Nith District, over the last 10 year period, show a steep decline. The trend has been experienced throughout Scotland and gives cause for concern. It is generally recognised that there are knowledge gaps in the life cycle, biology and migrations of this species. However NDSFB strives to ensure that their current policies are conjucive to providing a safe sustainable environment for sea trout and maximising their potential for increasing in future years.
